These quick mummy hot dogs with crescent dough wraps are a fun, fast, and delicious dinner or party appetizer that comes together in under 20 minutes. Perfect for picky eaters and endlessly customizable, they’re a year-round favorite that started as a late-night kitchen experiment.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Mustard or ketchup (for eyes)
  • Shredded cheese (optional, e.g., cheddar, mozzarella, pepper jack)
  • Everything bagel seasoning (optional)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
  • Garlic powder or onion powder (optional)
  • Dipping sauces (optional, e.g., ketchup, mustard, ranch, barbecue, honey mustard)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Open the can of crescent roll dough and unroll it onto a clean cutting board. If using perforated triangles, press the seams together to create a solid sheet. Cut the dough lengthwise into 8 to 10 thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide.
  3. Place a hot dog at the end of a dough strip and wrap the dough around it at a slight angle, overlapping slightly. Leave about an inch of hot dog exposed at the top for the face. Press the end of the dough to seal. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and dough strips.
  4. Place the wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch of space between them. Brush the exposed dough with the beaten egg wash. Sprinkle with optional toppings if desired.
  5. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and puffed. Let cool on the pan for 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Using a toothpick or knife tip, dab two small dots of mustard or ketchup on the exposed hot dog for eyes. Serve warm with dipping sauces.

Notes

For best results, use room-temperature hot dogs and don’t overwork the dough. Leave space for the eyes. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven or air fryer for best texture. Unbaked mummies can be frozen for up to 2 months.
