Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups (480g) powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream
  • Black gel food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Candy eyes (assorted sizes)
  • Gummy worms
  • Chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line 24-cup muffin tins with paper liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and granulated sugar on medium-high speed until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract.
  5. Add dry ingredients to wet mixture in three additions, alternating with milk. Begin and end with dry ingredients. Mix on low speed just until combined.
  6. Divide batter evenly among liners, filling each two-thirds full.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. While cupcakes cool, beat frosting butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then vanilla and heavy cream. Beat on medium-high until fluffy.
  9. Add black gel food coloring and mix until uniform.
  10. Pipe or spread black frosting onto cooled cupcakes. Press candy eyes and gummy worms into the frosting while soft.

Notes

Ensure butter is softened but not melted for best texture. Use gel food coloring instead of liquid to prevent thinning the frosting. Do not overmix the batter to avoid dense cupcakes. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Do not freeze with frosting and eyes attached.
