Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large ripe bananas, peeled, sliced, and frozen
  • 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 4–6 ice cubes
  • 1 tablespoon granola
  • 1 tablespoon sliced almonds or chopped peanuts
  • 1/2 banana, sliced (fresh)
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds or flax seeds
  • Drizzle of peanut butter
  • A few dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prep your bananas: Peel two ripe bananas, slice them into coins, and lay them flat on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least 2 hours (or overnight).
  2. Gather your ingredients: Measure out your peanut butter, milk, protein powder, vanilla, and salt.
  3. Layer in the blender: Start with the liquid — pour in the milk first. Add the frozen banana slices, peanut butter, protein powder, vanilla extract, and that tiny pinch of salt. If you’re using honey or maple syrup, add it now. Top with the ice cubes.
  4. Blend it up: Start on low speed, then gradually increase to high. Use the tamper (if your blender has one) to push the ingredients down toward the blades. If you don’t have a tamper, stop the blender every 15 seconds, scrape down the sides, and blend again. This should take about 45-60 seconds total.
  5. Check the texture: The smoothie should be thick enough to hold its shape when you stop blending — you want it to mound slightly in the blender jar, not pour like a liquid. If it’s too thick, add milk one tablespoon at a time. If it’s too thin, add a few more ice cubes or another frozen banana slice.
  6. Assemble the bowls: Divide the smoothie base evenly between two bowls. Use the back of a spoon to create a slight well in the center — this helps hold your toppings in place and looks pretty.
  7. Add your toppings: Arrange the sliced banana, granola, almonds, chia seeds, and chocolate chips in little piles around the bowl. Drizzle the warm peanut butter over the top.
  8. Serve immediately: Smoothie bowls wait for no one. They’re best enjoyed right away while still thick and cold.

Notes

Don’t over-blend; blend just until combined (about 45 seconds max) to avoid melting the frozen bananas. Freeze bananas sliced flat on a baking sheet for even blending. Use room temperature peanut butter for smoother blending. For meal prep, portion frozen banana slices, protein powder, and chia seeds into individual freezer bags.
