A quick and easy appetizer featuring fresh cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and basil leaves drizzled with a sweet balsamic glaze. Perfect for any occasion and ready in under 5 minutes.

  • 20 cherry tomatoes, halved if large
  • 20 small fresh mozzarella balls (Bocconcini or Ciliegine), drained
  • 20 fresh basil leaves
  • 3 tablespoons sweet balsamic glaze
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 20 wooden skewers or toothpicks (soaked in water for 10 minutes if wooden)

Instructions

  1. Rinse cherry tomatoes and basil leaves under cold water, then pat dry thoroughly. Halve larger cherry tomatoes for easier skewering and balanced bites.
  2. Drain mozzarella balls well and gently pat dry with a paper towel to avoid sogginess.
  3. Thread onto each skewer or toothpick one cherry tomato half, one basil leaf folded if large, and one mozzarella ball. Repeat the sequence if using longer skewers or keep it simple with one of each on smaller picks.
  4. Arrange skewers on a serving platter. Drizzle a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil over them, followed by a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  5. Using a spoon or squeeze bottle, gently drizzle about 3 tablespoons of sweet balsamic glaze over the skewers. If the glaze is too thick, warm it slightly in the microwave for 10 seconds.
  6. Give the platter a quick shake or tap to ensure even coating, then serve.

Notes

Use ripe, firm cherry tomatoes for best flavor. Pat mozzarella dry to avoid sogginess. Fold large basil leaves to keep them on the skewer. Drizzle balsamic glaze gently to avoid overpowering flavors. Assemble close to serving time to keep basil fresh. Store leftovers covered in the fridge up to 24 hours, adding glaze just before serving.
