This Easy Spider Web Buffalo Chicken Dip is a crowd-pleasing, conversation-starting, game-day-winning appetizer that comes together in under 30 minutes. The spider web design is fun without being fussy, and the flavor is exactly what you remember from that bar that closed down or that party where you ate way too much.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/2 cup Frank’s RedHot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken recommended)
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (full-fat)
  • 1 small piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives or green onions (optional)
  • A few whole black olives, sliced (optional)
  • Tortilla chips, celery sticks, carrot sticks, or crusty bread for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Soften the cream cheese by leaving it out for 30 minutes or microwaving for 15-20 seconds on low power.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, ranch dressing, and Frank’s RedHot sauce. Beat with an electric hand mixer on low speed or a sturdy wooden spoon until completely smooth and creamy.
  4. Fold in the shredded chicken, 1 1/2 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese, and all of the Monterey Jack cheese. Stir until evenly distributed.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a 9-inch pie dish or small baking dish and spread into an even layer.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes until hot and bubbly around the edges. Optionally, broil for 1-2 minutes for a golden top.
  7. While the dip bakes, spoon the sour cream into a piping bag or zip-top bag and snip off a tiny corner.
  8. Let the baked dip cool for 2-3 minutes. Pipe concentric circles of sour cream starting from the center. Use a toothpick or knife tip to drag lines from the center outward through all circles to create a web effect. Wipe the toothpick clean between each drag.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese over the top.
  10. Garnish with chopped chives or green onions and sliced black olives if desired. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, celery sticks, carrot sticks, or crusty bread.

Notes

Don’t overmix the cream cheese to avoid graininess. The sour cream web is all about timing—pipe it 2-3 minutes after baking. Use full-fat ingredients for best texture. Shred your own cheese for smoother melting. Can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance (add web after baking).
