A quick and customizable breakfast charcuterie board combining creamy cheeses, cured meats, fresh fruits, crunchy nuts, and sweet spreads for a perfect morning start.

Ingredients

  • Soft cheeses like ricotta or cream cheese
  • Firmer cheese such as aged cheddar or gouda
  • Thinly sliced cured meats: prosciutto, salami, or chorizo
  • Fresh fruits: strawberries, blueberries, sliced apples or pears, grapes
  • Crunchy nuts: almonds, walnuts, or pecans, toasted
  • Spreads and sweeteners: honey, fig jam, or apricot preserves
  • Breads and crackers: sliced baguette, rustic bread, water crackers
  • Extras (optional): olives, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers
  • Fresh herbs like mint or rosemary (optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather and prep all ingredients: rinse fruits, pat dry, and slice apples or pears thinly to prevent browning. Toast nuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until fragrant, stirring frequently. Set aside to cool.
  2. Prepare the spreads and cheeses: spoon ricotta or cream cheese into a small bowl and drizzle a little honey over the top. Slice firmer cheese into bite-sized pieces or thin wedges. Keep everything chilled until assembly.
  3. Arrange the board: place bowls of spreads and nuts spaced evenly. Arrange slices of bread and crackers around the edges. Fan out the cured meats in loose piles, folding or rolling them for visual interest. Fill gaps with fresh fruits, alternating colors and shapes for a vibrant look.
  4. Add finishing touches: scatter cherry tomatoes or olives in empty spaces for pops of color. Drizzle extra honey or place small dollops of jam near cheeses. Add sprigs of fresh herbs like mint or rosemary if available.
  5. Final check: fill any empty spaces with extra nuts or fruit slices. Serve immediately with coffee or tea, or cover loosely and refrigerate for up to 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Toast nuts lightly in a dry pan to enhance flavor. Slice fruits like apples and pears just before serving and toss with lemon juice to prevent browning. Keep cheeses and spreads chilled until assembly. For gluten-free, substitute breads with rice crackers or gluten-free baguette. For dairy-free, use almond-based cream cheese and vegan cured meats or smoked tofu. Avoid overstuffing the board for a visually appealing and easy-to-enjoy spread.
