Ingredients

  • Fig Jam or Preserves (e.g., Bonne Maman Fig Preserves)
  • Brie or Camembert (1 wheel)
  • Aged Cheddar (8 oz)
  • Manchego or Gouda (8 oz)
  • Blue Cheese (optional, 4 oz)
  • Prosciutto (4 oz)
  • Salami or Soppressata (4 oz)
  • Chorizo or Capicola (optional, 4 oz)
  • Water Crackers (1 box)
  • Baguette Slices (1 baguette, sliced and toasted if desired)
  • Pita Chips or Crostini (1 bag)
  • Grapes (1 cup)
  • Apple or Pear Slices (1 apple or pear, sliced and tossed in lemon juice)
  • Dried Figs or Apricots (1/2 cup)
  • Almonds (1/2 cup, toasted and salted)
  • Walnuts or Pecans (1/2 cup)
  • Marcona Almonds (optional, 1/4 cup)
  • Castelvetrano Olives (optional, 1/2 cup)
  • Cornichons or Pickled Onions (optional, 1/2 cup)
  • Fresh Rosemary or Thyme Sprigs (for garnish)
  • Honey or Balsamic Glaze (for drizzling)
  • Edible Flowers (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Start with the bowls: Place small bowls on the board for fig jam, olives, and any other dips. Arrange them in a triangle pattern for visual interest.
  2. Add the cheeses: Place cheeses around the board, leaving space between them. Leave brie whole, cut cheddar into thin triangles or cubes, and cut manchego into thin wedges. Let cheeses sit at room temperature for 20 minutes before serving.
  3. Fold the meats: Fold prosciutto slices into loose ribbons or rosettes. Fold salami in half twice and fan them out. Place meats in different spots near complementary cheeses.
  4. Fill in with crackers and bread: Arrange crackers and baguette slices in small clusters around the board, scattering them in groups for a natural look.
  5. Add the fruits and nuts: Scatter grapes, apple slices, and dried figs in gaps. Sprinkle almonds and walnuts in little piles to fill the board.
  6. Garnish and finish: Drizzle honey over brie or fig jam. Tuck in fresh rosemary sprigs for color. Adjust any bare spots with extra crackers or nuts.

Notes

Let cheeses come to room temperature for best flavor. Keep fig jam near mild cheeses like brie, not strong ones like blue cheese. For a vegetarian version, skip meats and add marinated artichokes, roasted red peppers, and hummus. Assemble up to 2 hours ahead, cover loosely, and add crackers just before serving.
