Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, sliced into thin triangles or cubes
  • 46 oz prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz salami or pepperoni slices
  • 4 oz gouda or smoked cheese, cubed
  • 6 oz marinated mozzarella balls, drained
  • 1 cup candy corn
  • 1 cup pretzel sticks or twists
  • ½ cup dark chocolate-covered almonds or pretzels
  • ½ cup dried apricots or figs
  • 1 cup red and green seedless grapes, washed and separated into small clusters
  • ½ cup pickled gherkins or cornichons
  • A few fresh rosemary or sage sprigs
  • 1 cup pumpkin-shaped or Halloween-themed crackers
  • ¼ cup honey or pumpkin butter
  • 2 tbsp whole grain mustard or spicy honey mustard

Instructions

  1. Set up your bowls first. Place small bowls or ramekins on the board. Fill one with honey or pumpkin butter, one with whole grain mustard, and one with candy corn. Leave the candy corn bowl slightly off-center for visual interest.
  2. Add the cheese. Arrange the sliced cheddar and cubed gouda in small piles or fan shapes around the board at opposite ends.
  3. Layer the meats. Fold the prosciutto slices into loose ribbons or waves and place them near the cheddar. Arrange the salami slices in a small overlapping pile.
  4. Add the fresh and pickled items. Scatter the grape clusters in two or three spots. Place the pickled gherkins near the salami. Tuck the marinated mozzarella balls into empty spaces.
  5. Fill in with crunchy elements. Sprinkle the pretzel sticks and dark chocolate almonds in the gaps. Add the dried apricots or figs in small clusters.
  6. Add the crackers. Fan out the Halloween-shaped crackers in a few spots around the board. Stack a few for height.
  7. Garnish and final touches. Tuck fresh rosemary or sage sprigs between items. Drizzle a little honey over the gouda if desired. Fill any empty spots with extra pretzels or candy corn.

Notes

Don’t put candy corn directly next to wet items like mozzarella or grapes to prevent stickiness. Serve at room temperature; take cheese out of fridge 20 minutes before assembling. For best results, assemble no more than 2 hours before serving. The board should look abundant but not overly arranged to encourage people to dig in.
