A creamy, spicy jalapeño popper dip topped with a golden, crispy panko crust, perfect for game day parties or casual get-togethers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces softened cream cheese (full-fat)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 fresh jalapeños, finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 4 slices cooked and crumbled bacon (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons thinly sliced green onions
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • ¾ cup panko breadcrumbs (Japanese-style, golden toasted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese and shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  3. Stir in finely chopped jalapeños, cooked and crumbled bacon (if using), sliced green onions, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until evenly distributed.
  4. Heat melted butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add panko breadcrumbs and stir constantly for 3-4 minutes until golden brown and fragrant. Remove from heat.
  5. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly into an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle the toasted panko breadcrumbs over the top, pressing lightly to adhere.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until edges are bubbly and the panko crust is golden and crisp. If crust isn’t browned enough, broil for 1-2 minutes watching carefully to avoid burning.
  8. Let the dip cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Let cream cheese sit at room temperature before mixing to avoid lumps. Toast panko breadcrumbs in butter for best crunch. Remove jalapeño seeds to reduce heat or keep for extra kick. Broil carefully to avoid burning the crust. Variations include vegetarian, gluten-free, extra cheesy, spicy twist, and slow cooker adaptation.
