A fun and festive twist on classic rice krispie treats shaped like footballs and drizzled with rich dark chocolate, perfect for game day snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups crispy rice cereal (e.g., Kellogg’s Rice Krispies)
  • 4 cups mini marshmallows
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate, chopped or chips (60% cacao recommended)
  • Optional: sea salt flakes for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl on high for 30 seconds. Stir, then add mini marshmallows and microwave in 30-second increments, stirring each time, until fully melted and smooth (about 1.5 to 2 minutes total). Alternatively, melt butter and marshmallows on stovetop over low heat, stirring constantly.
  2. Stir in vanilla extract immediately after melting.
  3. Pour crispy rice cereal into the melted marshmallow mixture and stir gently but thoroughly until evenly coated.
  4. Transfer mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Lightly grease hands or use parchment paper to press and spread mixture evenly to about 1-inch thickness. Avoid pressing too hard.
  5. Let the mixture cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes until firm.
  6. Use a football-shaped cookie cutter to cut treats into shapes. If unavailable, cut rectangles and round edges with a knife. Dip cutter or knife in warm water and dry before each cut to prevent sticking.
  7. Melt dark chocolate in a small microwave-safe bowl or double boiler, stirring every 20 seconds until smooth.
  8. Transfer melted chocolate to a piping bag or zip-top bag with a small corner cut off. Drizzle chocolate over football-shaped treats in zigzag patterns. Optionally sprinkle sea salt flakes while chocolate is warm.
  9. Let chocolate set at room temperature or chill briefly in the fridge for about 10 minutes.
