A quick and easy recipe featuring juicy hotdogs wrapped in crispy thick-cut bacon, topped with sweet, slow-cooked caramelized onions. Perfect for parties, snacks, or a comforting meal.

  • 8 regular-sized beef or pork hotdogs
  • 8 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: mustard, ketchup, pickles, or favorite hotdog condiments

Instructions

  1. Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add thinly sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. After 15 minutes, add brown sugar and continue cooking until onions are golden, soft, and sweet-smelling. Add a splash of water if pan looks dry to prevent burning.
  3. While onions cook, wrap each hotdog with one slice of bacon, spiraling from one end to the other. Secure with a toothpick if needed.
  4. In the same skillet, remove excess onions if necessary. Place bacon-wrapped hotdogs seam side down over medium heat. Cook for 10-12 minutes, turning every 2-3 minutes to crisp all sides evenly.
  5. If desired, preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). After pan-frying, transfer hotdogs to a baking sheet and bake for an additional 5 minutes for extra crispiness.
  6. Serve hotdogs in toasted buns or as is. Top generously with caramelized onions and add optional condiments if desired.

Use thick-cut bacon for best crispiness and to hold shape. Cook onions low and slow for rich caramelization. Secure bacon with toothpicks to prevent unraveling.
