A quick, 4-ingredient appetizer featuring a creamy blend of cream cheese, sharp cheddar, and ranch seasoning, studded with crispy bacon bits and shaped into a football. Perfect for game day and ready in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) dry ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 cup crispy bacon bits (cooked and crumbled or store-bought)
  • 2 stalks green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup extra bacon bits, crushed (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese by leaving it out for 30 minutes or microwaving for 10-15 seconds until soft but not melted.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, dry ranch seasoning, and chopped green onions.
  3. Mix vigorously with a rubber spatula until smooth and uniform, ensuring no streaks of cream cheese remain.
  4. Fold in the 1 cup of crispy bacon bits until evenly distributed.
  5. Place a large sheet of plastic wrap on the counter and scoop the mixture onto the center.
  6. Wrap the mixture tightly in the plastic, twisting the top to form a log, then pinch the ends to create a football shape.
  7. Refrigerate the wrapped football for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  8. Remove from the fridge and unwrap. Crush the extra 1/2 cup of bacon bits into small crumbs.
  9. Roll the chilled football in the bacon crumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  10. Refrigerate for another 30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld and coating to set.

Notes

Use full-fat cream cheese for the best texture; low-fat versions will be grainy. Shred your own cheddar as pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents. Ensure bacon is very crispy for the best texture contrast. Serve at room temperature for optimal flavor. Can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
