These cozy sausage balls with sharp cheddar and honey mustard dip are a quick and easy comfort food, perfect for game days or cozy nights. They combine savory sausage, sharp cheddar, and a sweet-tangy dip for an unforgettable bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 ½ cups Bisquick baking mix
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Shred 2 cups of sharp cheddar cheese using the large holes of a box grater. Let it sit at room temperature while you prepare the other ingredients.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sausage, shredded cheese, Bisquick, milk, garlic powder, black pepper, and cayenne (if using). Use your hands to mix everything together until evenly distributed. The mixture should hold together when squeezed.
  4. Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls. You should get about 30 to 35 balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  5. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 160°F (71°C). Halfway through baking, rotate the baking sheet for even cooking.
  6. While the sausage balls are baking, make the honey mustard dip. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, honey, Dijon mustard, yellow mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, and salt. Taste and adjust as needed. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  7. Let the sausage balls cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Then transfer them to a cooling rack if desired. Serve warm with the honey mustard dip on the side.

Notes

Don’t overmix the dough to avoid tough sausage balls. Let the cheese come to room temperature for better texture. For a spicier version, use hot breakfast sausage and add red pepper flakes. For gluten-free, use a gluten-free baking mix and add an extra tablespoon of milk. For air fryer, cook at 375°F for 10-12 minutes, shaking halfway. Leftovers keep in the fridge for up to 4 days; reheat in the oven at 350°F for 8-10 minutes. Unbaked balls can be frozen for up to 3 months.
