Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (226 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) sour cream
  • 1 packet (1 oz or 28 g) ranch seasoning mix
  • 12 tablespoons (1530 ml) milk
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) additional sour cream or Greek yogurt (for spider web piping)
  • 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets
  • 1 large head cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 1 large red bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 1 large orange bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 2 cups (about 300 g) baby carrots
  • 1 cup (about 150 g) sugar snap peas or snow peas
  • 1 cup (about 150 g) cherry tomatoes (optional)
  • Optional: black olives, sliced into spider shapes for decoration

Instructions

  1. Make the ranch dip base: In a medium mixing bowl, combine 8 oz (226 g) of softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup (120 ml) of sour cream, and 1 packet of ranch seasoning mix. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes. If the dip is too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) of milk and mix again. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  2. Prepare the spider web piping mixture: In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup (60 ml) of additional sour cream or Greek yogurt. Set aside.
  3. Assemble the dip on the platter: Take a large round platter and spoon the ranch dip into the center. Use a small offset spatula or the back of a spoon to spread it into a circle about 6-7 inches in diameter, smoothing the edges.
  4. Pipe the spider web: Fill a piping bag or zip-top bag with the sour cream mixture. Snip a tiny corner off the bag. Starting from the center of the dip, pipe a small circle. Then pipe a larger circle around it, about an inch away. Continue until you reach the edge of the dip (4-5 concentric circles). Using a toothpick or the tip of a knife, gently drag lines from the center outward to create a web effect. Wipe the toothpick clean between each drag.
  5. Arrange the veggies: Place broccoli and cauliflower florets around the edge of the platter to create a border. Fill in the rest with bell pepper strips, baby carrots, sugar snap peas, and cherry tomatoes. Group similar colors together for a rainbow effect. If using black olives, place a few on top of the dip or among the veggies.
  6. Add finishing touches: For extra spooky touch, carve tiny spider shapes from black olives (slice an olive in half lengthwise, then cut thin strips for legs) and place on the web.
  7. Chill and serve: Refrigerate the tray for at least 15-20 minutes before serving for best flavor and texture. Serve cold.

Notes

For best results, soften cream cheese at room temperature for 30-40 minutes. If in a rush, cut into small cubes and let sit for 15 minutes. The dip can be made a day ahead for deeper flavor. Veggies can be prepped up to 24 hours in advance and stored with a damp paper towel to keep crisp.
