A warm, comforting breakfast casserole combining cinnamon rolls and French toast custard, prepared overnight for an effortless morning treat with gooey cinnamon-sugar swirls and a creamy cream cheese glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 810 pre-made refrigerated cinnamon rolls (Pillsbury recommended)
  • 6 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 cups whole milk (480 ml)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (240 ml)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (100 g)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened (115 g)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (120 g)
  • 23 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut each cinnamon roll into quarters or bite-sized pieces and place evenly in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth and slightly frothy.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces, pressing down gently with a spatula to help the bread absorb the liquid. Do not stir.
  5. Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  6. Remove the dish from the fridge about 30 minutes before baking to bring it closer to room temperature.
  7. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden brown and custard is set. If edges brown too fast, tent loosely with foil.
  8. While baking, beat softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and 2-3 tablespoons milk until smooth and drizzle-worthy. Adjust milk to desired consistency.
  9. Let the casserole cool for 10 minutes after baking, then drizzle the cream cheese glaze generously over the top.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

Use room temperature eggs and dairy for smooth custard. Do not overcrowd the pan to allow even soaking and crisping. Overnight soak is essential for best texture. Adjust glaze consistency with milk or powdered sugar as needed. If casserole is too soft, bake an extra 5-10 minutes watching closely to avoid drying. Grease the baking dish to prevent crumbly edges.
