Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups (345g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ¼ cups (250g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Gel food coloring (red, blue, yellow, green, purple), about ½ teaspoon per color

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture into the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Divide the dough into 5 equal portions. Wrap each in plastic wrap and add a few drops of gel food coloring to each portion. Gently knead the color in without overmixing.
  7. Take small pieces from each colored dough and gently press them together, folding a few times to create a tie-dye marble effect.
  8. Roll the swirled dough into 1 ½-inch (4 cm) balls and place them 2 inches apart on the baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set and just starting to turn golden but centers remain soft.
  10. Let the cookies rest on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors without thinning the dough. Chill dough if too sticky before rolling. Avoid overmixing colored dough to preserve the marble effect. Rotate baking sheets halfway through baking for even cooking. Let cookies cool completely before storing or stacking.
