Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup softened unsalted butter, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1 cup packed light brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add 2 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed or folding with a spatula just until combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chunks and, if using, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans.
