These chocolate mummy pretzel rods are a fun, easy Halloween treat that comes together in under 30 minutes. Salty pretzels are dipped in smooth semi-sweet chocolate, decorated with candy eyes, and drizzled with white chocolate to look like adorable mummies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1216 pretzel rods (preferably Snyder’s of Hanover)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (about 175g, preferably Guittard or Ghirardelli)
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips or melting wafers (about 90g)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening (for semi-sweet chocolate)
  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening (for white chocolate)
  • 2432 small candy eyes

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Workspace (5 minutes): Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Have all ingredients and equipment ready.
  2. Melt the Semi-Sweet Chocolate (2-3 minutes): Place 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 teaspoon coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until completely smooth and melted (about 1.5-2 minutes total).
  3. Dip the Pretzel Rods (10 minutes): Dip each pretzel rod into the melted chocolate, twisting to coat about two-thirds of the rod. Let excess drip back into the bowl. Place on prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzels.
  4. Add the Candy Eyes (5 minutes): While chocolate is still wet, gently press two candy eyes onto the top portion of each pretzel rod to form the mummy face. If chocolate sets, dip eyes in a bit of melted chocolate to help them stick.
  5. Melt the White Chocolate (2-3 minutes): In a separate microwave-safe bowl, combine 1/2 cup white chocolate chips and 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well each time, until smooth.
  6. Create the Mummy Wrappings (10 minutes): Transfer melted white chocolate to a small piping bag or ziploc bag with a tiny corner snipped off. Drizzle white chocolate back and forth over the chocolate-coated pretzels to look like mummy bandages, leaving the eyes exposed.
  7. Set the Chocolate (15-20 minutes): Let pretzel rods sit at room temperature until chocolate is completely set, or refrigerate for about 10 minutes to speed up the process. Chocolate should be firm to the touch.

Notes

For best results, use fresh pretzel rods. Add coconut oil to thin chocolate for smooth coating. Work in small batches to prevent chocolate from setting. Use a ziploc bag for easy white chocolate drizzle. Store in airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. Can be frozen for up to 3 months.
